I do not know what to recommend to get into Marist because I don't know exactly what they are looking for. But I'll tell you a little about me and what I did when I was applying for Marist, hopefully it will help. I worked hard in high school, I took honors and AP classes. I got almost straight A's and I was involved in clubs and extracurriculars. I submitted my ACT score (it was better than my SAT). My essay was about a family tradition of mine, Pizza Monday. And when I went to visit Marist, I had a meeting with someone from admissions. As with all colleges though, they are definitely trying to get a more diverse student body and everyone has a chance to apply, so if you are interested, then I would suggest applying.

Have a good GPA and be involved in extracurriculars. Do fairly well on the SATs as well.

I used the common app to highlight all my involvements in high school and had a 2020 SAT(1330 on the old one)and a 3.9 GPA and a ton of extracurriculars (4 years of track and XC, 3 years of of basketball, Anchor CLub, Best buddies, the list goes on). Be long winded - but only where it's true and relevant.
And don't be afriad to brag! this is your time to show off. Marist is getting more and more competitve every year, so buckle down and study for those SATs and finals (even after you've been accepted - there are such things as "unaccepted letters" you know), but don't get so caught up in school work that you don't live your life. Marist looks for well-rounded individuals who are active citzens capable of independent thought. Be confident. Be you.

I participated in many extracurricular activities in High School, ranging from sports to Acting Troupe. I also was involved in community service through my church and 4H group. I would recommend that the student be well-rounded in those areas if they would like to get in to Marist. I also would recommend taking the most challenging courses offered in High School, such as AP classes or courses for college credit.

Although being a minority MAY account for a particularAug 14 2008Art & Design Department
Although being a minority MAY account for a particular percentage of why we do get into some schools, I can definitely tell you now that it's not the ultimate reason. I went to a prestigeous boarding school where the academics were tough and involvement was a part of the curriculum. I can easily say that I was highly involved in sports, the leadership program as well as extracurricular activties every year. My grades were fine and all our classes were always a little harder. My SAT scores weren't the greatest due to other demands of workload, but were definitely sufficient enough to get me into a fairly good school. On top of all this, I had an excellent portfolio for the fashion department. When I came to visit Marist, I was told that my name had been mentioned among faculty quite a few times - and having a good essay will ALWAYS help. ALL colleges love good essays & that's the truth. They all love hearing your voice apart from what your scores say or your grades say or even your extracurriculars demonstrate. In any school, you must demand your place by showing them what you can do - not just by telling them.

Otherwise your chances of ever getting into your #1 will always be slim!
